2010-2012 District 3 Biennium Goals of Governor Lisa Frazer

· Achieve 100% club participation in donations to ZIF
· Achieve net growth in both membership and new clubs
· Align District Chairs with ZI Chairs - so that District goals/initiatives are the same as ZI
· Implement Mentoring programs for each club (varying degrees of activity based on club size, environment, needs)

Zonta International 2010-2012 Biennial Foundation Goals

Zonta Clubs participate in ZI International goals when clubs and individual members donate to the Zonta Foundation. Donations can be made to:
International Service Fund
ZI Strategies to End Violence Against Women (ZISVAW)
Amelia Earhart Fellowship Fund
Jane M. Klausman Women in business Scholarship Fund
Young Women in Public Affairs Award Fund
Rose Fund (Foundation Annual Operating and Program Support Fund)

International Service Program for the Biennium 2010-2012
International Service Fund goal to raise $1.5 million for these programs:
- $500,000 To prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV and Gender-Based Violence in Rwanda, a project in cooperation with UNICEF
- $500,000 to the Elimination of Obstetric Fistula and the Reduction of Maternal and Newborn Mortality and Morbidity in Liberia, a project in cooperation with UNFPA
- $500,000 to Safe Cities for Women Project in Guatemala City, Guatemala and San Salvador, El Salvador, a project in cooperation with UNIFEM.

Zonta International Strategies to end Violence Against Women (ZISWAV) goal to raise $630,000 for these programs:
- $430,000 towards a comprehensive strategy to end burns violence against women in Cambodia, Nepal and Uganda, a project in cooperation with the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM)
- $200,000 to Security and Empowerment for Women and their Families: Ensuring a Gender-Responsive Humanitarian and Early Recovery Response in Haiti, a project in cooperation with UNIFEM.

For the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship we’re looking for a few good women college students to apply June 15th!

It’s time to reach out to young college women who are studying business and let them know about Zonta’s Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships, which our club helps to fund through our contribution to ZI.

The Jane M. Klausman award was established to encourage women to enter careers and seek leadership positions in business-related fields. The program’s ultimate purpose is to seek to influence business decisions that positively affect women by increasing the number of women in executive positions in business management. What could be closer to Zonta’s goals?

Any woman undertaking a business and/or business-related program at an accredited university/college/institute and living or studying in a Zonta region/district, in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through the final year of a Master’s program at the time the application is submitted to the district, may be considered.

District-level winners receive $1,000, and twelve international winners receive $5,000 each. We can make a real difference in a young woman’s life, and perhaps inspire a future Zontian, by encouraging eligible women to apply for this award. Applications should be sent to our club post office box (Zonta Club of Long Island Attn: Elisa Adams, PO Box 53, Garden City, NY 11530) by June 15th for processing. It would be an honor for our club to nominate a district award recipient, or even an international winner!

Wine Tasting & Afternoon Dinner -a great Success!

Thanks for your support of this November event!
The Zonta Club of Long Island had a great fun/fundraiser on Sunday November 7th. Over 50 Zonta members, friends, and family came and learned more about wine tasting and enjoyed a delicious dinner. Thanks to all who came and supported this effort. Funds raised help support the many service projects that our club supports.

2010 Awards

At our May 2010 meeting The Zonta Club of Long Island presented service awards to:
· Long Island Fund for Women and Girls
· Momma's House
· Coalition Against Domestic Violence
· Gateway Youth Outreach

A check was also presented to the INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) for the proceeds of our May garage sale,along with a "Welcome Basket" that the INN can give to a family. Items in the "Welcome Basket" were donated by our members.

A Zonta*ship was awarded to Tabor House Retreat Center for the program they are doing with Haitian women.

Awards to Zonta International Funds were also presented to support the work of Zonta International programs.

The new 2010-2012 Officers were installed by Area Director Leslie Wright.

Our Zonta Club of LI was proud to honor 3 very special women at our 2010 Women of the Year awards program on March 11. Over 130 family, friends, co-workers and Zonta members attended the dinner program at the Inn at New Hyde Park to celebrate the contributions that these 3 women have made and continue to make to our Long Island communities. We honored:

Nancy Youngfert, Volunteer, Board of Directors Cornell Cooperative Extension Nassau County

Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4H Campership Program

Mary & Elizabeth Center

Parish Outreach Center of LI- West, Inc.

Lutheran Family and Children's Services- New Mothers Program

The Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN)

Our Zont*ship Program provides one time assistance to local women to meet a need that cannot be met through outher non-profit or public programs. Members nominate a potential recipient to the club for approval. This year one Zonta*ship was awarded and another is under review.

Additional Zonta Service Projects for the 2008-09 year included:

- Ringing Bells for the Salvation Army (over $1500 raised)

- Preparing 40 Easter Gift Bags to homebound Nassau County residents through the St. Vincent de Paul Financial Management Program (estimated value of items donated by our members over $800)
